oh say can you seaaaaa

Feelin’ nautical? Have fun with this belted sailor dress, brand-spankin-new from the fall bevello line!

This trend is serrrriously all the rage this season. From the stylish belted waist to the quintessential peacoat buttons down the front, the sailor dress is coming back with a vengeance.

The light khaki is ultra slimming — not to mention tres chic with that navy blue-striped accent belt. Throw in the capped sleeves and pleats across the skirt and you’ve got the perfect fall dress. Kudos to Freeway, one of bevello’s newest independent designers, for putting together such a fab frock.

It reminds me of this cute cute sailor suit Hilary Duff was spotted wearing in Manhattan yesterday, filming “The Business of Falling in Love.”

Cute right? I approve! Aye, aye, Captain!

“The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys” … Wait, Make that Fashion!

With summer officially over and fall underway, I’ve finally had just enough time (in between football games, the job search and LSAT classes) to catch up on some movies that I’ve been dying to see. Now, the average reader is probably thinking recent blockbuster hits aka The Ugly Truth, Harry Potter, and maybe even, Inglorious Bastards. I wish you were right! Sadly, I’m going waaaay back. Try The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Twilight and Confessions of a Shopaholic. So you might be asking, “How could you possibly let these classics-in-the-making slip by?!” Well, you can blame my lack in movie attendance on the ch-ch-ch-chaos (done in my best Jamie Foxx voice) of senior year … and the refusal to spend an unreasonable amount of money on a few laughs (even WORSE a few tears), a larger waistline (thank you extra buttery popcorn) and an obstructed view of the big screen (hello, front row seats are not meant for giants and/or O.O.C. hair).

Ok, I’ll admit I recently coughed up some serious moolah ($5 for a coke?!) to see The Hangover a while back. And it was worth every penny. But still, even after I got home, I felt a hint of remorse. I couldn’t help but think how those 15-ish bucks could have been put to a more practical use … like purchasing one of bevello’s newest pieces from its many independent designers! And regardless of what anyone tells me, nothing quite beats the comfort (and affordability) of your own home: oversized couch, healthy snacks, clean bathrooms, DVR and cozy pajamas all at your disposable. That’s what I’m talking about!

So anywho … on with my story. (I do have a point, I promise!) Thanks to my older sister, I was introduced to the single girl’s dating “Bible”—and more importantly, six little words—at a young age. Little did I know that these short but powerful words would continue to linger around over the years, accompanying me home after each and every date. ((Sigh)) That’s right, ladies. You … me … we’ve all heard it before. Say it with me now: He’s. Just. Not. That. Into. You. When I heard a movie was in the works (complete with all-star cast), I was beyond ecstatic and quickly penciled in a pre-Valentine’s date for me and … myself?! But because of “conflicting schedules,” we had to postpone to this past week. Pssshh…ain’t that right.

A few minutes into the movie (combined with the all-too-relatable character Gigi), and I was quickly reminded how nerve-wracking and traumatizing dating can be on a girl. Besides the stress of finding the perfect outfit for your first rendezvous, the rules of dating are complicated, ever changing and just downright unclear. On second thought, make that impossible. Depending on whom you ask (and what you ask them), you are more than likely to end up with conflicting answers. Do you call him first? Do you wait for him to call you? Do you respond to his text in 10? Or do you keep him guessing with that whole “mysterious thing?” Is myspace really the new booty call? See what I mean … the possibilities are endless. And at the end of the day, who the heck really knows?!

But while the rules of dating will never cease to exist (or be understood by all), the same cannot be said about the rules of fashion. Because in today’s fashion world, the rule book has officially been thrown out! Anything goes! Boots in the summer? Check. Mixing two prints? Check. Smokey eyes and bold lips? Check. And my personal fave … white after Labor Day? Check!

Get the most out of your wardrobe by pairing your tried-and-true white jeans (I’m loving the distressed look right now) with some chic boots and a fun, flirty shirt. Or try them with some tough boots and a chunky sweater or bold jacket. And lucky for you, bevello has plenty of fall staples from independent designers Voom, Ryu and Wish Collection that will carry you well into the winter. See, girls, all it really comes down to is your CONFIDENCE and ATTITUDE (two important qualities that should also be possessed in your dating endeavors) … and learning to transition your favorite pieces with the season. Check out this come-hither outfit that I will surely be rocking while out on the town with my girls!

So remember: Be creative and confident with fashion. Have fun, and smile pretty. And who knows … he might just be that into you in no time at all! And if not, well, you probably weren’t that into him either. Ciao, bellas!

summer fun for all!

Tomorrow is the last day of July. Sigh. How depressing is that?

The harsh reality is that summer is winding down… but don’t let it go without a fight. I’m thinkin’ you need one more brand-spankin-new summer top to keep the season alive. Yes, most certainly!

Cue what could possibly be the cutest sleeveless of the season: the sunray yellow dove tank by Voom, an up-and-coming independent designer.

I saw this tank at the bevello store last week and, let me tell you, it is probably the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. I mean, it’s got two birds on it — so adorable! It’s made of a super lightweight and breathable cotton. The empire waist is super flattering, too. And the straps? Yeah, they’re made of braided white-and-navy ropes.

It’s even got a tie in the back! Oh, I am such a sucker. The pastel yellow is so summery — it will pick your spirits right up! Wear it solo, or layer it with a nice wrap, like this blue Frenzii frock, also available at bevello.com:

So, what do you say? Squeeze every last drop of warm, sunny fun out of the season. Aye!

a vested interest? you bet.

I challenge anyone to bring forth to me a trend that is hotter than the vest right now.

This business-gone-casual (or cash, if you speak in abbrevs) phenomenon is becoming trendier than tucking sweatpants into Uggs. (For the record, this is what I think about that look: Um, ew.)

But the vest…now that’s something I can get into. Think about this, ladies! You have a cami on, and you want to style it up. Throw a vest atop it, slip on some skinny jeans and you’ve got yourself an outfit. They work well with babydoll tops too — and dresses. And v-necks. And….anything? Heck, I’ve even seen some people wearing JUST vests. Buy ONE vest and you’ve seriously got 118232 new outfit possibilities. THAT is the mark of a good fashion investment.

And the time we’ve all been has finally come: the debut of bevello’s very first vest.

But this vest, designed by one of bevello’s emerging designers, Ryu, isn’t your typical black vest, lurking amongst the messy stacks in Forever 21. No, no, no dearies! The vest has two flaps, and, for extra flare, a single button to fasten the smaller part to form-fit your body, defining your shape while the second vest hangs loosely beside you. It’s the perfect combination of flowy-yet-fitted.

The back is cinched and has sharp fan pleating to give the hour-glass appearance. Love it! It’s stylish and totally feminine. A+ to you, Ryu.

We’ve only got three left, though. Yes, un, doix, trois. Will you be the next to rock this fab look?

Famous Foxy Fans: Their favorite looks (and yours!) … for less

I have a talent for flipping through a gossip magazine in record time (especially at those most crucial moments aka waiting in the monstrous check-out line at Target or sunning by the pool for an afternoon). So how does this make me different from any other twenty-something girl in today’s celebrity obsessed culture, you might ask? Well, not only do I truly read them in record speed (we’re talking mere minutes maybe even seconds), but I also read them in reverse … as in back to front. Yes, it really is a gift (or at least I like to tell myself that it is).

But even more than catching up on the latest Brangelina news (Are they legit headed for Splitsville?! And what about Brad’s alleged late night “rendezvous” with Jenn?! … I love seeing what my favorite celebrities are wearing! My photographic memory soaks up each and every picture … inspiring my next outfit combination or new purchase.

I have to admit, though, my gift for speed reading (combined with my photographic memory) isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Unfortunately, there was that one time a check-out clerk scolded me as I attempted to tackle several magazines at once, saying, “You know, you do have to pay for those before you read them.” Not my proudest moment … even after I did what any girl in my shoes would do: I reassured her that I was a modern day Goldilocks … merely flipping through the issues to decide which one was right for purchasing!

Perhaps, the biggest drawback to my hidden talent, however, is that I always end up a little disheartened when I put an issue down. Like the majority of fashionistas out there, I crave the latest looks and designer pieces from Hollywood’s A-listers … but have a very limited budget (even more so these days). Take the two-tone Chanel flats Cameron Diaz has been wearing while out and about in NYC. Justifying them? Fuhgeddaboudit! I can’t even afford them! So what’s a girl to do?!

Well, lucky for me, one of bevello’s independent designers, Foxy Originals, is here to help! Foxy Originals offers stylish, affordable jewelry seen on quite a few celebrities (just enough following to make it cool and not overdone). Trust me, I’ll be stocking up on these items to compliment my summer (and early fall!) wardrobe. And you should, too! After all, it’s not often that we can score the exact same piece that a starlet is wearing … without breaking the bank! Designer duds plus extra money (thank you sale price!) for a night out with the girls?! Another reason why bevello is your one-stop online fashion boutique!

belted glory

It’s no secret that belts are no longer used to hold your pants up or spruce up the space between your belt-loops. But you know what? I think I like the current alternative is even better.

I used to be a non-believer in wearing belts outside of your shirts. But I’m definitely coming around! (And yes, I know I’m about 2 years late.) Bevello, too, embraces the creative use of the belt. Check it out!

I love this Patent Leather Midsize Belt by Landes, one of bevello’s beloved independent designers.

It comes in black and white, and works perfectly as a hip-hugger on the outside of a tank, tee or dress. On sale today for just $30!

You can wear it lined up OR slightly off-kilter, as our lovely model demonstrates above. I think I like tilting it a bit — it makes the outfit seem more angular. Can you imagine how cute this would be with some white or silver sandals?!

For a more delicate look, check out this Mustard Yellow Skinny Alligator Belt, also by Landes.

This belt is so dainty and girly. I love the pairing with the color gray. This looks super cute with a flowy dress! It would add the perfect cinch to accentuate an hourglass figure. Just $30!

Now, this belt is one of my favorites:

This Russet Brown Wide Alligator Stretchy Belt, by Landes of course, accentuates the bust and narrows the waist at the same time. A dream come true? $50. A steal!

Cute, comfortable and charming. You really cant ask for more.

yeah, they were all yellowwwwww

I never liked yellow. EVER. I thought it was one of the worst colors I could wear with my fair complexion and dark hair.  I also thought I’d look like a banana. Or a caution sign.  SOMETHING unnatural. Any of you know the feeling?

But noooooooow, I can’t get enough.

The urge to buy something yellow hit me for the first time (literally, I think it was the first in all of my 20+ years of existence) about six months ago. I was deep in the depths of Forever 21 when I came across this adorrrable mustard yellow tee. It was really simple, but looked SUPER cute when I paired it with the black vest I was also buying. And that was the beginning of my obsession with yellow garb.

But I’m not alone! Bevello, your favorite online fashion boutique, has totally got the yellow covered this summer.

Wish Collection also designed this floral top, which I am IN LOVE WITH. Seriously, LOVE. Gorgeous design, gorgeous pattern…AND A BOW. And its $65. YES.

This Wish Collection top would also be perfect for a waaaaarm summer day with the tank strap. So cute! Ruffles for the win. Also $60!

So, moral of the story: you can SO wear yellow and not look like fruit slash road signs.
