dressing for your valentine’s day!

Regardless of whether you’ll recognize this Sunday as the celebration of love and St. Valentine or National Singles Awareness Day, you’re going to need a killer outfit. But perfect outfits one cannot make without the perfect accessory. Yes? But if you’re like me, you might find clothes and accessories specifically designed for Valentine’s to be a bit…tacky.

Well, we set out to find the hottest ways to make your Valentine’s statement WITHOUT going overboard. Yes, you CAN find ways to embrace the holiday without looking cheesy. These look-at-me pieces around will add a subtle hint of holiday spirit to your ensemble, whether you’re trying to either a) sweep your sig other off his everlovin’ feet or b) become a magnet for cupid’s arrow.

I can’t help but find this BeBe bag to be absolutely presh. Pair this with your favorite dress and add a festive (yet subtle) touch to your night’s outfit.

Yep, that’s right. LIPS. Tacky? Maybe. But pair it with a black mini-dress and you’ve got yourself a statement.

Add a floral touch to your look with this Rosette necklace from Arden B. It’s not too loud, but definitely girly and fun!

Those are just a few to try on for size — but the idea is to create an outfit as you would normally, then complete it with a good, festive accessory. I think you’ll find that with this holiday, less is more.

Think you have the hottest Valentine’s outfit? Post a picture in the comments! We’d love to see!

These are a few of my favorite things…

If oprah can have a favorite thing list…than by-golly so should I!

(And I really do own all of these items)

Once again. If I have it in two colors….It must be good! This tank by Trinity is stretchy and little tighter so it’s perfect underneath tops or under a cardigan. I have it in gray and purple and no lie..I wear both every week! It’s got a sexy racer back and super flattering rouche detail in the back!

This PINK line is seriously worth the money. The Softest beaters, undies, shorts and pants that will ever touch your body. Usually I am not one to justify paying for a name brand but TRUST me when I say it is well worth the price!! Oh yeah it doesn’t hurt that it’s so freakin cute too!

bejeweled

So, the summer’s gone. But how to beat the fashion doldrums?

Add some spark to your ensemble this fall with some chunky jewelry.

This bejeweled piece is from Forever 21 — only $6! Can you imagine how hot this would be with a black tunic, colored tights and a jeweled headband? Yes, yes, yes!

This Urban Outfitters specialty would rock my world. The agate pendant is the prettiest blue — a GREAT fall color.

And then you have the bib necklaces. I personally love them, but I’ve yet to find an outfit that I can rock one with. Any ideas? (This one is from BeBe — $69!)

Who cares if your jewelry isnt practical? I am of the opinion that one’s accessories should never be practical. Just have fun with it!

Ultra-destroyed denim: love it or leave it?

Today I saw on the Forever 21 twitter that this fall is going to be full of uber-destroyed jeans. We’re talking ripped, grated, bleached, painted, dyed — the works.

Exhibit A:

Now THAT is what I call destruction. I’ve rocked the old Abercrombie and Fitch ripped jean look, but this is taking things to a whole different dimension. But I think I kind of like it.

The trendy, American-Apparel look is trading the minimalistic hipster vibe (we’re talking tight pants and low-cut V’s) for a funkier, edgier approach (super-destroyed jeans and leather…lots of leather). We shall call this…rugged-chic?

I don’t know about you, but I think the rips can be subtly sexy. It certainly kicks the solid, boring denim up a notch.

This trend is really going to be huge. I’ve seen the hottness at Forever 21, Nordstrom and Urban Outfitters already…and it’s only September. But if you don’t feel like shelling out the dough for a whole new denim wardrobe, don’t sweat it. Pull out the bleach and scissors and make yourself a pair. Let’s just hope this never goes out of style ;-)

Don’t you wish we had a “Re-Do” button

 staples-easy-button

Everybody by now has seen that STAPLES commerical for the “EASY” button.  Boy, wouldn’t that be nice.  But what i’d really like is a “Re-do” button! You know, for some of those “What was she thinking”? or better yet “What was I thinking”  fashion moments.

  Check out this website www.fashiongrail.com

Not only is a great go-to fashion guide.  But check out the celebrity re-do links http://tinyurl.com/mfzdfa

Check out what they said about Halle Berry’s Fashion Re-do:

“The gorgeous Halle Berry out for dinner but looking like she’s ready for a play-date at the park.  It’s a cute outfit; I just wish she snazzed it up a bit for the dinner environment.  So, I pretty much scrapped the entire outfit and re-dressed her in linen slacks, a white tank and a wrap top.  I kept her jewelry at a minimum but couldn’t help myself and added Alex and Ani bracelets that are well worth the investment.”
Halle Berry's Re-do

Halle Berry's Re-do

What a great idea! Instead of trashing the celebrities and tell them how BAD they look. Let’s tell them what they should have done!  I decided to do a little Re-do of my own on Britney Spears:
Britney Disaster

Britney Disaster

HOLD UP!   What’s going on with the undergarments Brit? The dress is alright but a golden snake arm band?  Let see how a trip to bevello can help:
brittany

So here’s how I re-did Brit….  Still gave her a green dress, but one that actually fits.  I opted for our green ribbon dress by trinity (available here). Its organic so its soft and comfy without showing off the undergarments (or lack there of)

I switched up her square glasses for a more retro feminine  feel.  Threw up some cute wedges from pink studio and a handbag that played off the shoes.  Exchanged her scary snake arm band for a  few accessories : Bangle from Forever 21 and a necklace from urban outfitters.

If Britany wanted to get on the fashion ”Radar” like her new song, she should take up some fashion tips from our “Re-Do” button instead of taking some undeniable fashion risks with little pay off.

bevello LOVES the look for less! They have an affinity for putting together amazing looks at amazing prices!  Everyone wants to look as if a they have their own personal stylist.

The looks for less masters this craft ! My favorite part is how they put together celebrity looks for a fraction of the real cost of the actual outfit…..Kinda makes those celebrities look a fool =) I mean unless they like spending more!

   Deena Crosshatch Bag

 http://www.baghaus.com/product/Deena-Crosshatch-Bag/black-handbags

Where: I love everything about this top… the color the neckline, the drawstring waist.  The question isn’t where to wear this top, it’s where wouldn’t I wear this top.  Other than work, since it shows a bit of shoulder, I would wear this to dinner with friends, to the movies with my husband, to the park with my puppy.

How:  Because the neckline has so much interest, I wouldn’t want to take away from it with a necklace.  I would accessorize with a bold silver bangle bracelet and some silver hoops.  Since the top has a bit of a casual feel, I would funk it up with some distressed skinny jeans and some platform pumps.  Add a nude handbag and you’re good to go.

Annnd the winner is….

Kelsey Fry !

Kelsey stylized the winning look for our be a bevello stylista challenge with the yellow ribbon rouche dress!

3.  Forever 21 Layered Side Bow Headband in Cream

http://bit.ly/w567o

How:  I would wear the trinity yellow ribbon dress with the Kenneth Cole Reaction sandals.  The bright coral adds a nice pop of color and contrasts the pale yellow of the dress.  The Works in Progress necklace echoes the coral again and is super sweet as a juicy strawberry!  Another sweet touch is the adorable bow headband from Forever 21.  The pale ivory of the complements the softness of the dress.

Where:  I would wear this outfit on a day around town shopping!  The dress is super comfortable (100% organic cotton!) so I wouldn’t mind walking around town, seeing the sights, and scoping out new fashion finds!  The flat shoes are perfect for this as well.  Then the necklace and the headband are the perfect accessories to complete this sweet outfit.  Very soft and feminine, and super cute too!

Cheap and Rewearable Bridesmaid Dresses that are still pretty enough for a wedding!?!? Yup I am so serious!

alg_27

Do your Bridesmaids a favor! Lose the formalities!

While at home this weekend I opened up a pandora’s box in my own childhood closet.

Boxes, like 17 of them, of old notes from my entire grade school and high school years, My sister’s wedding china (Mind you she’s been married for 6 years and its never made it to her house)  And Dresses…..lots of them! Prom’s, Homecomings and of course Bridesmaids!

Why do we keep these when we know were never going to wear them again? On the off chance that “Oh I can just get it hemmed and make it a cocktail dress.”

Who are we kidding? Every bride claims that the bridesmaids dress that she is choosing is totally re-wearable!  Maybe….. as a donated Prom dress!

Now, see I am very aware now-a-days how far the wedding industry has come along with these new styles of bridesmaids dresses. Finally the cut and silhouette have improved but one thing hasn’t- The price!  Tack on the alteration and you’re lookin at $200.00-300.00 For a dress that may or not be attractive, your style or too formal for any other occasion than well….being a bridesmaid in another wedding.

Well summer’s officially here, which is  the most popular time slot in wedding season.  If you’re having a casual summer wedding I have a great idea that your bridesmaids will be extremely thankful for…..yup cheap, mainstream find em’ almost anywhere, Bridesmaid dresses!  That still look pretty enough and formal enough for a wedding!

Just shop around online or well known speciality stores for a dress that fits your wedding theme.  Here are some great reasons why you should avoid the formal bridal party dresses in lue for a more stylish casual option.

1. Savings!-  Huge savings depending exactly what kind of dress your wanting. If you’ve been in a wedding before, you know all the extra expenses required for being a bridesmaid.  Hair and make up, Decorations, food and games for bachalorette and Bridal showers, Gifts for wedding, showers and bachalorette, shoes for the dress. It goes on and on ! Lets give our friends a break by picking out a dress they will be proud to pay for and that won’t break the bank!

2 Versitility- Think of the selection you can choose from. The Mall or internet is your oyster!

3. Avoid the Pins- Less possibility there will be any need for Alterations

4.  Schedule your own fitting- Instead of 1-2 fittings scheduled in the brides hometown, You have the convience of ordering and going to the store and trying on the dress.

5.  Wearability- The dress doesn’t have the formality that holds you back from being able to wear typical bridesmaids dresses. You can wear a mainstream dress again….and again!

6.  The Perfect Bridesmaid Gift:  Give a useable and appropriate gift! Skip paying for the jewelry or some cheesy ingraved item thats bound to get trashed. Get them the dress! You can find many options from $25.00 and up!  Oh! I am so serious!

Check out some possibilities! My favorite of all (honestly, not partial at all) is Bevello’s,online fashion boutique,Chocolate Covered Strawberry Dress.  This dress is formal enough to be bridesmaid savvy, but also so re-wearable!  Its very girly and feminine and goes great with brown and pink themed weddings!
