frizz-free!

Winter hair.

I know you know what it is. And good luck avoiding it. You can spend an hour styling your most sculpted coif and after one step outside into the arctic tundra — BOOM, you’ve got frizz, static and tangles.

BUT…after a 30-minute soul-search on the Sephora hair aisle, is it possible that I have found the cure? A holy elixir that can keep your locks semi-normal looking in the cold months?

Perhaps.

The brand is Living Proof, and they specialize in frizz-resistant styling products.

I tried the straight-making styling cream. My fly-aways disappeared AND it made my hair feel smoother and look shinier. But it doesn’t come cheap — one 4 ounce bottle will run you more than $20.

But hey, you’re worth it. Right, L’Oreal?

What a grand opening!

Last Thursday, bevello’s Winston-Salem location hosted it’s grand opening. Check out some of the photos from this fun, elegant evening. A special thanks goes to Sarah Lafferty, bve-ws’s event coordinator (she’s the one responsible for the adorable apple centerpieces)!

Also, congratulations to Marcia Szewczyk for winning the opening night prize…$100.oo bevello gift certificate! Lucky you…

virtual manicures? yes please!

HOW cool is this, bve-ers?

OPI has a new feature on their website that allows users to “try on” different fingernail polish shades. (You have to go to the toolbar at the bottom of the site, www.opi.com, and click “Try it on studio”) You can choose from hundreds of colors and figure out what you like best.

You can also adjust the skin tone on the hand and the length of the nails to fit your own. I’ve heard of online beauty shopping before, but this is just taking it to the next level!

What’s next, virtual eyebrow waxing?

paper planes? no, try shoes

I’ve seen some pretty wonky shoe fashions, but I think this takes the cake. Le Creative Sweatshop has invented the newest in stiletto fashion — origami??

I have to say, I’m kind of digging them. You could totally leave yourself notes on them and everything. ;-) Wonder what would happen to them in the rain, though?

One thing’s for sure, this is pretty cutting edge. Ha ha, get it? Like paper cut?

rain, rain, go away. no, really.

IDAAAAAAAAA. Why. Why must you do this to us all?

Like Mary said in her post earlier today, sometimes when it rains, we trade fashion for practicality. At least, that’s what I thought until I saw the cutest rain accessory I think I’ve ever seen — the high-heeled rainboot. I am SO serious.

Having never seen them in a store myself, this great discovery promted me to do a Google search — and you wouldn’t believe the options available for killa rain stylin’!

These are DKNY, and you can get them at Macy’s for $135. Ahhh! They’re just like regular heeled boots…only built for water resistance.

These wedged boots would give you a boost over those puddles! Tretorn, about $65.

These Dav boots look more like your traditional rain boots — only with a 2 inch heel. AND they zip on the side, which is super helpful when stuffing your jeans in!

Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you have to feel frumpy. Get your heel on and strut through those puddles, I say. At least you wont run the risk of overflow from stepping in one too deep ;-)

Singing in the Rain….

I  remember the days of my childhood when I would actually play in the rain.  Careless and fancy-free ; I would get dressed in my crappy clothes. Put on my Dad’s oversized raincoat, grab an umbrella and splash and stomp in the puddles around my driveway.

Flash-Forward 20 years: Instead of embracing the rain, We, as adults run and shutter from every drop. I am constantly finding myself ill-equip for the rain.  My gap poncho from high school is always conveniently stashed away in my trunk. Umbrellas? Sure !    I ‘ve got two of em!  One on my porch so I can grab it on the way to my car (never-do), the other is an Ark & Co one (Great new designer who we brought on) that I got free at the MAGIC show.  Where’s that one? In my car? Nope….

In place of a wine bottle in my wine rack….

So as you can see my rain preparedness… not so good.  On days like this I also have trouble figuring out what to wear. I want to look cute, but it’s so hard when it really limits your shoe selection.

My solution:  THE RAIN-BOOT!

I can dress in relation to my new water shoe and tuck my jeans in them so I avoid that awful wet ankle syndrome.  So I’ve done my research and Target definitely has the cutest selection.  I don’t want to spend more than $25.00 on something I will only wear once and while.

Here are my top choices( I also included an outfit sample with each boot)

So go ahead and cast your vote for which boot I should buy! I need your opinions!  Just comment on this post and let me know.     Soon, I will be back in action stomping in those puddles faster than you can say “Hair-Sprayed Bangs from 1987″

Over the river and through the woods, to Winston-Salem we go!

bevello #2 in all her glory

bevello #2 in all her glory

bevello’s newest (and only) sister store is now officially up-and-running in North Carolina’s historical booming metropolis (…maybe not),  Winston-Salem. Live in “the Dash”? Lucky you! The store is bigger than the Cameron Village location, and you know what that means: more clothes!
We’re featuring the same great deals that you already know and love: up-and-coming designs, friendly associates and a shopping experience that is as fun as going through your best (and most fashionable) friend’s closet.
The Winston-Salem location is managed by Natalie Braswell (a transplant from the Raleigh location and a Winston-Salem native) with the help of Jaci Gentile, an Elon journalism graduate and bevello’s newest associate. Also an integral part of the team is the bve-ws intern, Sarah Lafferty, a recent NCSU graduate with expertise in marketing and event promotions.
If you are in the area, be sure to stop in, check out the fabulous apparel and introduce yourself to our team. We can’t wait to see you!
Mark your calendars: the grand opening of the Thruway location will be Thursday, November 19th from 7 to 9 p.m.

trail blazin

Oh, awkward transitional weather — how can we dress for you? One day you bring us beaming hot sun and the next it feels like an arctic tundra at our doorsteps. Do we wear tanks and tees or shall we pile on the layers? Really, it’s getting very hard to predict (and adequately prepare for) your mood swings.

There’s good news here, though: one of the fall’s biggest fashion staples is the blazer. And why not? Chic, classy, sophisticated — yet practical for the in-between season changes.

This midnight black blazer is from the collection of one of bevello’s newest up-and-coming designers — Nick & Mo.

The jacket is wool and fully-lined, so it’s sure to keep you cozy during those cold days. But don’t worry about getting too hot — the 3/4 length sleeves will keep things light. The copper buttons set off the black, and the bright white trim is so mod.

You’ll have four front pockets and a bronze knob securing each sleeve, as well. This blazer is SO Jackie Kennedy, am I right?

And if you’re looking for something brown, check out its twin, also designed by Nick & Mo.

This russet would be gorgeous with any hair color. The edges on this blazer are trimmed with black lace.

Victims of the weather? No longer!
